Ghislaine and the money

But, you see, $10 million isn’t that much money

Once you’ve a London town house and a NYC one then there’s not a huge amount left of $10 million. Certainly not all that much to finance the usual lifestyle desired etc.

Yes, yes, I know, and yet at that level that is true.

With a father like Cap’n Bob she had no chance. Epstein was obviously a Controlling Father. Just look at him. And despite her Oxford education she seems not to have marketable skills apart from being able to run parties and a diary. Of course she was going to hitch herself to a sugar daddy. A pity she chose a wrong ‘un, but again, remember her father.

It runs in the family. Her brothers are hopeless businessmen, who managed to get out of carrying Capn Bob’s can.

10 million squids can produce a pretty nice living with some intelligent non speculative investment.

Moreover how did she acquire these properties ? Through purchase or inheritance ? Bob spread quite a lot around companies and family to avoid scrutiny.

“And despite her Oxford education she seems not to have marketable skills apart from being able to run parties and a diary”

I’m really sceptical of a lot of “Oxford education”. The question is, what’s the results like? The math department produced Andrew Wiles, and he solved Fermat’s last theorem. There’s various Nobel prize winners. So, I’m not sceptical of that. There’s a ton of medical work around Oxford, so I’ll assume that’s good.

But Ed Miliband has a degree in PPE from Oxford. Cameron has a PPE degree and Vernon Bogdanor described him as one of the ablest students he had taught. How shit are some of the rest of them? If PPE is like the shortbus, how would you as an outsider know?

Most fashion houses have a couture line and a ready-to-wear line. The ready-to-wear is just cheap shit with a badge put on it for twats. But the couture line sells not only clothes but also the brand. How much does all the proper bits of Oxford flog a load of crap that people are impressed by?

PPE is a superficial course – little more than General Studies. Greats – Literae Humaniores: the study of Greek and Roman history, literature and philosophy – used to be a very demanding course, but now you don’t need to read Latin or Greek…

Because at one time these were proud institutions of learning run by an almost monastic class like Tolkein and CS Lewis who were dedicated to greatness. Now they are trying to wangle getting lots of £9K/year students paid for by the government, many of whom are there to get away from mum and dad and have fun. The priority is now getting the money and passing people so that they don’t complain about their time at yooni.

Stuff £9/yr for Uk citizens, they’re all desperate to get foreigners in @ £20k/head. Hence why they suck up to the Chinese, more £££ to be made getting them in.

Michael Gove describes PPE as doing three A levels.

I had a low opinion of PPE but there was one guy in my college in my year doing PPE who was brilliant, so the answer is that some students are good, some not so good.

I remember when Cameron (in a TV interview) didn’t know the English translation of “Magna Carta”.

PPE is the Oxbridge version of “Media Studies” but without the intellectual rigour.

Since the amount of intellectual rigour in “Media Studies” is negative … I suppose that is intended as a back-handed compliment.

The maths department *taught* Andrew Wiles: I think that Mr and Mrs Wiles produced him.
Oxford Maths department is bloody good (as is Cambridge’s) so are both universities’s science departments: the old quip “Trinity College has more Nobel prizes than France” is only true if you’re looking only at Scientific Nobels but France is one of less than a dozen countries in the world that has more Nobel prizes (over all subjects) than *one* Cambridge college. My maths tutor was not as famous but he once asked students in a lecture I attended not to publish the proof of a theorem as he had realised there was a flaw in the recognised (by the mathematical establishment) “proof” and had developed a “sound” (unflawed) proof to teach students but not yet formally published it.

Captain Bob and Epstein were in the same business, so pretty obvious that the CIA/MI6/Mossad/There Really Is No Difference put her in touch with Jeffrey.

Otherwise it’d be too much of a coinkydink, how many dodgy Jewish billionaires working for the security services can one person be expected to know?

One of the oddities about these Epstein revelations is just what small-time operators he and his entourage turned out to be. The likes of Clinton and Trump seemed to have dropped him in very short order. He was left with specimens such as Mr and Mr Mandelson, sending them as much as several thousand dollars each (!).

Epstein tried to stitch up Trump and I would not be surprised if he did the same to Clinton.

Mandy is a man who is constantly on the make: he has a title and influence amongst politicians and uses those facilities to hob nob with people who are massively out of his financial league. In other words he is easily bought.
The Yorks were probably in a similar position. Like performing sealions, they could do tricks for a fish.

The harder nosed and more savvy operators, didn’t really need his services.

Ghislaine is also a symptom : she is attractive but no raving beauty, she had a few bob from Bob but her main asset was that she knew everybody who was on the dancefloor at Annabel’s. Just the sort of Sloaney set that Epstein would like to be seen associating with.

Personally I think Epstein was a one man Ponzi scheme.

If your mode of operation is getting kompromat on people, you want it on everyone you can in both major parties.
Everyone you don’t have kompromat on is a risk both to you and the ones you have it on, since they can bring you down if they find out and publicize it. Unless your targets have it on them.

As for the one man Ponzi scheme, that would go with her father who seems to have had the same mode of operation.

Bob was a monster, of course. One of his favourite stories was about the time he talked a frightened German boy at the fag end of the war into putting down his weapon. Then Bob shot him. Most people would not boast about that, but Bob Maxwell did.

Pity Ghislaine, I don’t think she ever had a chance.

If you assume the houses and the art were worth $8m at the time, then she’d have $2m investable capital, so barely enough to pay the property taxes and the cleaner.

Even the income from $5m invested wouldn’t go far in maintaining the two households and flying between them.

TPTB in the news media never had any intention of covering the enquiry so no deflection needed.

No this is a banana skin of Keirs own making.

He knew full well that Mandy was a wrong un, but reckoned that Trump would be beguiled by the Schmoozemeister Pursuivant. Morgan mcSweeney has just resigned to spend more time with his timing devices and I think that Keir will not be far behind. These sacrifces only delay the inevitable.

He was. Mandy did an excellent job as British ambassador to the Trump administration. Shame nobody will notice because of the Epstein stuff, but he is a natural social butterfly who is good at diplomacy.

According to Wiki: “Maxwell was provided with an annual income of £80,000 (equivalent to £216,935 in 2023) from a trust fund established in Lichtenstein by her father” and “In 2000 she moved into a 7,000-square-foot (650 m2) townhouse on East 65th Street, New York City, six blocks from Epstein’s mansion. Maxwell’s townhouse was purchased for US$4.95 million by an anonymous , with an address that matches the office of J. Epstein & Co. Representing the buyer was Darren Indyke, Epstein’s longtime lawyer. In April 2016 the property was sold for US$15 million.”

She then went on secretly to marry hedgie Scott Borgerson.

It ain’t cheap being a socialite and it seems she could afford it without Epstein but then, Controlling Father. I reckon she’s one of those who always needs the shelter of a loaded older bloke.

Thanks very much Norman. I thought that it was ‘not her own work’ , but guessed her late unlamented daddy had left it to her by some clever ruse.

This is a good primer

So, are you saying that Epstein made a profit of $10m on Ghislaine’s house?

It’s like the screaming about Mandelson’s FIVE FIGURE PAYOFF!!!!!

It’s £40,000. That’s a five-year civil servant redundancy payment, probably a ONE YEAR Great Power foreign ambassador’s redundancy payout.
