Quite. Few places in the world are utter shitholes in and of themselves; it’s their inhabitants that make them so. It’s a transferable skill, as we find.

“This is a country under a blockade by the United States that has aptly been called “medieval” and “economic terrorism”, laid on top of the sanctions imposed by Donald Trump in his first term, on top of the American embargo that has been enforced since the 1960s. With, depending on your ideology, as much blame as you choose to give to the economic policies of the country’s 67-year-old communist government.”
This is crap, but let’s go with it. The people of Cuba get a shitty time because they can’t trade with the USA. So why aren’t the people of Cuba kicking out the government to get someone more Yankee-friendly into power so they can have a better time?
My belief about Cuba is that it’s warm, you can drink rum, so how much do you care about a lack of power? Colder parts of Europe had their revolutions earlier because you really want to be richer and have a warmer house. If you lived in Tuscany and could just pick fruit off your trees and it was warm without heating for most of the year, you care less about management of the economy.
It’s why Scotland would have to do a massive U-turn if it gained independence. It would have to be the closest thing to Ayn Rand on the planet.
What would be your view if the USA (or EU) imposed a trade embargo on Britain until its government was replaced by one approved by Trump? Would you say that the people of Britain should be “kicking out the government to get someone more Yankee-friendly into power so they can have a better time”, and that would be “good politics and economics”?
And if we refused, would you accept that our resulting problems would be due to ‘bad politics and worse economics’? Or to US imperialism?
Seems to me that people need to apply the sauce for the goose test even when it gives them an answer they don’t like.
“After Urrutia (1959) Cuba became a one-party communist state with no competitive elections”.
Look at what happened in Cuba from 1959 to 1961, when Castro expropriated every US business on the island. Then tried to put Russian nuclear missiles on them*.
So then, it would have been nice if the people of Cuba had actually been given a vote on who they wanted their government to be, but they haven’t, for 67 years.
And their problems have been the result of the decisions the Castro family have made over those 67 years.
Yes, yes and yes. We’re in a socialist power dive, and this time it’s nearly terminal because of the muslim influx. For now, the USA is not. Let’s have some of that, please.
So why aren’t the people of Cuba kicking out the government to get someone more Yankee-friendly into power so they can have a better time?
The people of Cuba have opted for leaving Cuba. There are more Cubans living outside of Cuba than there are on the island.
This isn’t a blockade by the US. If it were a blockade, the US wouldn’t let anyone trade with Cuba. It is a boycott of the US trading with Cuba. In fact, trade in food and medicine is still allowed, but those USian meanies want dollars.

You might want an airconditioner in summer, though.

*In response to US Jupiter missiles in Turkey.

If I had a government that I hadn’t elected, I would gladly see Trump come over and shoot them all.
With this government? I’d have to give it some thought.
If our government nationalised US companies’ assets without compensation I’d think he had a point.
Seems to me that people need to apply the sauce for the goose test
Bollocks. Communists are not people and deserve nothing except the wall.

Colonialism works!!!

No. Of course not. I was just saying, even if that were true.
Cuba can trade with most of the world. I’d actually welcome the US scrapping their own embargo just so that people can see where the real problem is.
Always amazes me, this view the lefties have that socialism only works if the socialists can trade with capitalists.
You are amazed that they manage to have one correct view of how things work?
It always amuses me that all the Commie states have adapted to their nonsensical system by becoming Nazis.
But I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised. The hatred of the lefties for Jews these days would give dear old Adolf a warm, cosy feeling.
