Chelsea Gods, a content creator and political activist, drove two-and-a-half hours from San Diego to attend the event. “Americans are poor. We are strapped for cash. We are struggling and we are tired,” she said. “People First-policies are the only way to win a political future for people on the left.”
So someone who makes TikTok videos for a living has enough money to drive 5 hours – there and back – for a Bernie Sanders rally?
Americans are so poor, right?
Peter Osgood, Bobby Tamblin, Jimmy Greaves…
Chopper Harris
Price of gas in San Diego is 90 pence/litre & Yanks’ earnings are 30-50% higher than UK. 5 hours, 300 miles? For a small saloon, he’d get change out of a tenner equivalent. Not even two pints of your beer. Cheap day out if you Bernie Sanders rallies.
Oh, I worked out the millage on our average speeds. Last time I was UK side, 5 hours wouldn’t have got me from Dover to London
You can do 300 miles in 5 hours, motorway services to motorway services in the UK, but not on the M6. Elsewhere, no chance.
Yep. 300 miles in 5 hours. And another 5 hours trying to find somewhere to park.
Makes me wonder what his dad was called…
Ye?
I’d be calling him all sorts for naming me, his son, Chelsea.
Let’s hope it wasn’t something socially awkward,
such as “Hitlerpenis”.
Going to a Bernie ‘Private Jets’ Sanders rally to protest about poverty is only slightly less funny than going to a Bernie ‘Private Jets’ Sanders rally to protest about ‘carbon emissions’ and ‘climate change’.
Don’t forget Bernie ‘Private Jets’ Sanders also owns 3 mansions. Ole commie is doing pretty well for himself.
Bernie ‘I need three homes and a private jet, you do not’ Sanders;)
Multimillionaire socialist says stop wondering where I got all my money from, and why I’ve still got it despite my ‘principles’, look over there at those evil
Jewsbillionaires!Back in 2019 Bernie Sanders called for an inheritance tax of 45% on estates of $3.5m and above. Completely coincidentally Sander’s own wealth is estimated to be about $2.5m.
We’re now living the final chapters of Atlas Shrugged
I finally read Atlas Shrugged in 2006 and ever since then I have been struck by repeated parallels with modern Western society. In the last decade its become less of an allegory and more of a road map.
We also live in a world of Ellsworth Tooheys, from the Fountainhead.
I loved The Fountainhead and you’re right, it’s like an art deco vision of the future (sadly)
Tim – same as on this side of the Atlantic, young people feel priced out of buying a home and starting a family. And inflation has made everyone poorer. For example, my wife used to buy her focaccia from Waitrose, now she makes it at home in the Aga. But I understand Mr Miliband plans for us to be eating a burnt rat on a stick by 2030.
No that’s not true. It will be cold rat. Burning will be for elites only.
I just assumed the rat would be at least fricasseed by all the exploding Chinese EV batteries…
I think it will have to be Rat au Van.
Mangetout, Martin, mangetout.
“Well, you marinate the rat in a handy puddle…”
“For how long?”
“Until it’s drowned.”
“Kill the rich and take their stuff.”
Great plan, Chelsea.
BTW, did you know you are rich?
2.5 hours by car…. in the U.S. …..
Isn’t that “next County over” , over there?
It’s “next County over” in the UK too, as Mr in Spain mentioned above!
Driving from San Diego it’s two counties over. Orange county and Los Angeles county. It’s about 120 miles. On the I-5, so average speed was about 50 mph. Must have been some traffic.
As I recall, if taking the 405 (I lived in LA for a while about 40 years ago) you could walk there faster than driving.
Grikath, we’ve got a friend coming to visit for the weekend, she lives 200kms/two hours drive away. Rural Australia. She regards that as a minor jaunt, one of her daughters is a four or five hour drive away. And stops with us every couple of weeks. So no, I’m not particularly impressed either.
Ltw… I once had a Beau in Oz, and actually considered emigrating….
Meeting the potential in-laws sound about right for Queensland…..
Oz is a …..tad largerish…. than Clogland…. 😉
Oh,,, and *utterly* determined to block *anything* that might threaten the Union/Blob/Legislative vis-a-vis you’ve got going there…
It’s ..20 years ago, but if I ever get into any kind of Money again…
That experience …disincentivised me to ever invest in Oz….
Funny story Grikath. A former girlfriend had parents who moved to Melbourne from NZ before she was born. They decided to go on a day trip, looked at a map, and decided on Adelaide (about 800kms away) as a good destination. It took them 3 hours to realise their mistake 🙂 They were professionals, a psychologist and psychiatrist, but not at home with numbers
Depends. Out west where I live it gets you to the next large city. In the north east you’ll have travelled through 3 states in that time;)
70% of car ownership in the UK vs 92% in the US – but sure, we in the US are super-poor.
Don’t worry, Miliband will soon make sure the UK’s is lower.
