This is going to work well, isn’t it?

These are the slides for my opening presentation for today’s event in Cambridge.

My core argument is this, based on an analysis of Adam Smith’s Theory of Moral Sentiments,

How much of Smith d’ye think he’ll get wrong?

Oh bugger, I forgot to put the date in my diary. Cambridge isn’t very far, I could still go. But it’s raining.

That rain is useful, isn’t it.

Same here. Was wondering how many mugs he’d get to attend.

Let’s all hope today’s event will be financially ruinous…

“We are filming today. There should be a video of this in due course.”

Are you, like me, beside yourselves with impatient expectation?

What’s the point in paying to go if there’s going to be a video?

You get to be part of history. Actually these people are going to be listening to Spud for 6 hours. Should we notify the Red Cross so they can be ready for casualties?

To ‘network’ with other anti-capitalist fantasists?

If they’re anything like Murphy, that isn’t going to work well.

Statistically, they are unlikely all to be petulant sociopaths like Spud…

Ah but Theo, this is a self-selecting group, not a random one, so they can be statistically highly anomalous.

True. But, in my experience of leftoid psychopathology, Spud’s type of sociopathy is rare, though other forms of derangement are common. Trick cyclists could have a field day diagnosing Spud.

More to the point, if he manages to attract other people with his same personality, I assume they will all get into slap-fights and take out mutual restraining orders.

Given his past history with source texts, is it even safe to assume that he’s actually read it?

Well at university Smith was, at least from the philosophy standpoint, one of those authors where you had two main works – ‘Wealth’ and ‘Theory’ – so it was one where you could take a chance that the question in the final would only focus on the shorter work (The Wealth) given his outlook on conventional economics I’d be amazed if he had read either and even if he had his lack of knowledge means he would have dismissed them out of hand. I think my kids would disown me if I took them to this and it’s possible social services would get involved.

Adam Smith, once more, this time with feeling.

Get wrong? Everything bar, perhaps, “and” and “or”. And I wouldn’t bet on that.

Not enough tea yet this morning. I read the opening as “These are the slides of my operation….” Agh!!! More tea needed.

Phuck me, this is hard to take. He’s insisting AI companies should be mutualised, today’s war is a Zionist enterprise to distract from Epstein, and he’s mullered Smith

Are you there? It would be a terrible shame if someone set off the fire alarm and we definitely wouldn’t want that to happen.

Yep. Clive Parry very good on bonds, gets trade deficit right, if JF wants to balance that deficit by buying UK bonds, let them. He tolerated spud interruptions like a saint. Christenson, an actual economist, up next

Well done that man. Taking one for the team. If Tim gave out medals, you’d have earned one today.

So how many loons have actually paid and turned up to hear the Magnificent Murphy?

About 170. 95% full suite. Lots taking Spud on about not needing tax to spend, so why did he want government to manage our cash ISAs. Finish with something upbeat: Christensen mentioned his former home of Jersey , 9 miles by 5, has a maximum 20mph limit, lower in the urban area, and the Ferrari/ Maserati stick to it. It’s a cycling paradise he said. Implication being go holiday.

If you want a couple of other cycling places, the Ile de Re and the Ile d’Aix just off the west coast of France are big for cycling. They’ve built lots of cycle tracks on Re, and Ile d’Aix has no vehicles allowed (there is a postal van). Some of the resorts in France have done a lot for cycling (unlike most of the country) as a way to deal with the parking problem at the beach.

170 people who paid to listen to Murphy? Bloody hell. The country is even worse than I had imagined.

Did they observe a minute’s silence for the passing of the Ayatollah?

170 @ £45 each = £7,650 which is a nice little earner for Murphy.

Well, if AI companies’ customers want to buy their supplier, go ahead, there’s nothing stopping them.

So Spuds wants feedback from their Cambridge event and sends a questionnaire to my eventbrite email:

I can confirm that, because of what we perceive to be the success of this event, we are now planning another one, which will be in Leeds on 27 June, although we can offer little more information than that at present.

If you have time available, might you be willing to fill in the Google form linked below that seeks your opinion on Saturday’s event and your suggestions on how we might change things at future events?
1.What did you enjoy most about the day?
2.What could be improved?
3.What topics did you most enjoy?
4.What topics would you want to see more of if we do another event?
5.Would you want to see more speakers for next time?
6.Do you have any comments on our pricing policy? If we go elsewhere our costs will rise. Would you have been willing to pay a bit more?

Would you want more chance to socialise at the event?
Would you like us to offer more merchandise?

It’s tempting to say, I don’t fully understand why Leeds costs more than Cambridge but yeah I’ll pay £180, comparator loonies like Business Green / Innovation Zero charge that for a day. But don’t want to risk joining a banned list.
