Whingeing Wimmins

The performing arts industry in the UK is “inhospitable to parents” and falling far behind other industries in supporting women who have children, according to research.

The report, titled “the Motherhood penalty”, criticises the industry for failing to consider how it might adapt to better accommodate parents, with the result that many, in particular women, drop out.

Its author, Jennifer Tuckett, a playwright, said: “Caring responsibilities were one of the major issues affecting women’s careers in the arts.

“We were shocked to find problems like schedules being sent out the night before and the impact this has on parents, and we would urge both arts organisations and policymakers to look at new models which support both women and men to achieve success in the workplace and at home.”

All plays, musicals, live performances, now to be between 1 pm and 3 pm to allow the mothers among ther performers to do the school pick up. Hey, equality’s the paramount virtue, right?

While not as numerous as the number of bodies in the ‘Wales anti racism’ strategy this still has various organisations that should be culled with liquidation of any pension entitlements.

The Forum was supported by Trafalgar Studios as
hosts alongside Sphinx Theatre, University Women
in the Art and the December Group, plus supported
by partners The Writers’ Guild of Great Britain, Equity,
ERA 50: 50, The Stage, Stage Directors UK and
funded by Arts Council England.

In my am dram days I saw no shortage of women. In fact the problem was finding leading men.

Of several wise counsels I received from my father, one was to involve myself in amateur drama. Lacking any acting talent, I found immediate employ rigging lights, building props and running the sound system (complete with mandatory uniform of black heavy-metal T-shirts, black jeans, and Hi-Tec basketball boots).

I was waist-deep in girls, many of them most comely, and the male thespians were generally – how shall we say – not competing with me for their favours.

So the feminist antagonism to female biology continues…and changes must be made to accommodate women with “caring responsibilities”.

Meanwhile, the feminisation of society is unceasing….As Iran threatens the UK base in Cyprus, a consultation from Army HQ in Andover has asked soldiers if they agreed “rules on make-up should be gender-free”, explaining “this means that men, women and non-binary service personnel can all wear make-up [and hair extensions and jewellery] in the same way”.

Pass the sick bag…

The biggest problem in the army is not recruitment but retention. For every weird person who thinks it’s OK to join up cos I can wear lippy now there are two experienced straight blokes who don’t want to put up with this shit any more and quit.

Meanwhile none of ships can leave port because they can’t get the diversity quotas right. Not enough trans black lezzies who can actually do sailor things.

Unfortunately they have been imbued with this since the Blair era. My sister in law was posting delighted after Gorton and Denton but she refuses to hear any talk of ‘Sectarian voting’. I do honestly think she believes that these Islamists will suddenly be reconciled with the radical feminist/ LGBT Alphabet soup advocates. It’s the kind of cognitive dissonance that is immovable.

It’s a form of mysticism, unconnected with intelligence. Such people can mystically believe multiple contradictory, impossible things at once, and are happy to proclaim them all in a single sentence, entirely unaware of their babbling incoherence.

I’m starting to see why, for so long, worldwide, women were regarded as hysterics unfit to be let near anything serious. While this is unfair to the minority who are not, or are capable of suppressing their mysticism, in empirical terms that traditional view has merit, eh?

It’s the emotional-system line. Men are more on the system side of things. Which if you’re doing complex things is what you need. Also why women are really good at looking after people. There’s also lots of women who are reasonably sound.

But you can get some quite extreme women on the emotional side, at which point, every decision is about the feels. None of it is about trade-offs. Green party women are like this.

“we should have more trains. trains are good”

So someone draws up a plan which includes going through a bit of forest

“we should not be destroying the forest. forests are good”.

This is a a problem for more than parents. But it’s not fixable through a report.

Gimme a break. Schedules are organised long in advance. “The night before” is just a reminder of what was decided long before.

I walked off a job specifically because I didn’t know where I would be going until I’d driven an hour to a depot to be given the day’s (just that day) schedule.

All sorts of caring responsibilities are incompatible with getting a schedule 30 minutes before you need to do it. I’ve had to turn down work offered at the last minute because I was on the way to dealing with my mother, or taking somebody to an airport, or going to the dentist. If you want staff, drop the “drop everything, do it now” crap.

When I was a muso I only ever once worked with a female instrumentalist, Anne Dudley. The girls were singers; I rarely saw one play an instrument. None were mums. The lads who had kids had wives or girlfriends looking after them. They occasionally showed up at gigs. Never at rehearsals. Rehearsal and recording studios didn’t have creches.

That’s muso life. Other, more family-friendly lifestyles in other economic sectors are also available.

People of all walks of life deal with managing their children. EVERYBODY picks up their kids. Or has them take the bus. Or puts them in day care.

“Caring responsibilities were one of the major issues affecting women’s careers in the arts.”

You think it’s easy for fucking chemists?

Sorry, drama queen Tuckett, YOU ARE NOT SPECIAL. YOU DO NOT HAVE SPECIAL PROBLEMS.

Shurely “motherhood Penalty” is exclusory
“Parenthood or Loco Parentis or Other Persons Caring For Young Persons or Those Otherwise Unable To Self Care Penalty”
