A government spokesperson said: “Diego Garcia is a key strategic military asset for both the UK and the US. Ensuring its long-term operational security is, and will continue to be, our priority – it is the entire reason for the deal.

We ensure the security of a military base by giving it away to a foreign govt largely controlled by one of our enemies/rivals.

Only someone who did PPE could believe that.

And pay the recipient for the privilege of taking it off of our hands.

Only someone who did PPE could believe that.

Not only believe it themselves, but expect anyone else with a greater-than-room-temperature IQ to believe it too.

I was so pleased that the very obvious scam to make MTK and his cronies very rich, that could only have been dreamt up by not very bright solicitors, has collapsed. And the reason it’s collapsed has convinced me, after a lapse of 60 years, that there is indeed a God…

Talking of PPE…

Amia Srinivasan, Chichele Professor of Social and Political Theory” at Oxford, wrote In her 2021 book, The Right to Sex:

“When feminists embrace carceral solutions – cops on the street, men sent to prison – it gives cover to the governing class in its refusal to tackle the deepest causes of most crime: poverty, racial domination, borders, caste.” These, she added, “are also the deepest causes of women’s inequality”.

How was a woman capable of such a superficial view of the world – worthy of some thick Green Party activist – appointed to an Oxford University Chair?

She was appointed to an Oxford University Chair precisely because she holds those views. Indeed anyone not holding those views would not have been appointed.

Balls. There’s ample evidence that poverty isn’t a major cause of crime. As for borders: really? Only if they are badly policed surely – as James VI & I demonstrated. And even then “cause” is a bit strong.

Racial domination? She who plays the race card is in the wrong.

Which leaves caste about which I have never seen any evidence. I wonder whether she has, or is she just promoting an Indian prejudice?

Mauritius vows to ‘decolonise’ Chagos Islands
Given that the first people to live on the Chagos Islands and Mauritius itself were Europeans, who are these ‘colonists’, and will they be ‘decolonising’ Mauritius?

Reminder that Indians are not our allies:

After the collapse of the plan to hand the islands over voluntarily, Dhananjay Ramful, the Mauritian foreign minister, told an Indian Ocean conference in Mauritius that his government would regain control over the territory.

“Regain”? They never had it, not least because as Jonathan says, whitey was the first to colonise these previously uninhabited islands.

‘colonise’??

Perhaps we should use the word ‘diasporise’ these days??
