It is 05.20, I am in Addenbrookes Hospital, awaiting a CT scan for an abdominal issue that in pain terms is at present at least equal to the pain of a large gall stare before its removal 12 years ago. I admit this is a morphine enabled post – having just had my second shot of the night. I will then be seeing surgeons.”
While I have normal human sympathy for almost anyone who is unwell,, I have to ask what sort of mind would in these circumstance make a post like this?
Luckily, he is still well enough to read, post and reply to the outpouring of grief from his leftard supporters. I recall this also happened when he was at death’s door with his umpteen bouts of Covid. What a brave man.
That sounds like kidney stones. I had a similar experience and got rushed in to hospital in the early hours. The pains had subsided by mid morning but they still made me a priority case and sent me home to wait for a consultant appointment.
Fortunately I had private health care because by the time the appointment arrived, with a 3 month wait just for the consultation,I’d already had a scan and one operation to remove the biggest offenders and had started shockwave lithotripsy for the rest.
A colleague said his mother described kidney stones as more painful than pregnancy.
Anyway, I wish him well because it really is painful and the treatment isn’t pleasant either.
My sister had some recently. Managed to drive herself to hospital. They gave her some drugs for the incredible pain. She had a scan and the stones were the sort that would break up themselves without being hit by a hammer.

An egotist (or solipsist) – prone to self-pity and exaggeration – with delusions of grandeur and importance?
Seeking political vengeance is backward-looking and so distorts political priorities. It leads to accusations of heresy and Freud’s “narcissism of small differences”. And, inevitably, it distracts from forward-looking politics. So we get righties who hate the Tories more than socialists…which is disappointing.
PS. IANAL, but ISTM that only Blair and May could ever stand trial in a court of law.
Yes, I do think of that whenever I feel any sympathy for him.

Expect a whole series of posts next week about his thinking while drugged up in hospital. He will have solved the NHS, the hospitals senior doctors will have called by for a conversation about how to cure cancer, he will have further imaginary conversations with nurses, porters and patients.
And in this day he has risen
Senior administrators will be queuing outside his private room (Professor Kartoffel being too important to be on a general ward with the rest of the plebs), to seek answers to the burning economic questions of the day.
The senior administrator at Addenbrokes that I know (through his x-country running) is likely to treat Murphy as he deserves.

Many years ago I had a very illuminating conversation with a chap who was quite well known as someone who trouble seemed to follow around, resulting in a number of charges for assault etc (not sure if any actually stuck all the way to a conviction). His description of his fairly successful fighting technique was brutally simple – get the opponent on the floor, and put the boot in hard to make sure he didn’t get up again. Which seemed an eminently sensible tactic, given the opponent would quite probably do the same, given half a chance. Street fights are there to be won, not conducted under Queensberry Rules to ensure ‘fairness’.
But I’m sure Spud would have a few good words to say about his old sparring partner were Tim to be writhing in agony in a hospital bed. /sarc.

My wife has auto-immune pancreatitis. She suffered acutely before drugs alleviated her symptoms.
