There’s only one Tax Justice: As little of it as possible, levied in a sensible, easy to understand, and *cheap* way, with at least a decent ledger so that peeps can check which bits went where when it comes to allocating/spending**.
Anything not complying with it isn’t Justice, it’s Robbery.

Say… Road Tax… pays for maintenance/development of infrastructure, anything else diverted from that amount has to be clearly identified, including the amount syphoned off.
VAT, agree with it or not, as an “anonymised” general pool, which gets properly ledgered as to where goes what.
Or..VAT primarily goes to Defense/Law Enforcement ( so everyone pays…) , anything from the pool used for Fripperies gets a loud and clear mention for the amount syphoned off from one of the State’s main responsibilities.
No doubt peeps more learnéd than me in this kind of thing can come up with better ideas, but the general principles stand.

Tax spillover policy assumes away tax havens, tax competition, as does a global minimum corporate tax rate. Unless I’m missing something then Spud is rightly objecting but for the wrong reasons.
A few minutes will get you a government income & spending summary, but it’s usually all “public sector”, not separating out government and councils. When you can find local council I&S details it’s horrifying as 80% of their income comes from the government.

This seems to answer the question of whether he is genuinely committed to his tax reforms, or if it’s just about himself (whether cash or mere aggrandisement).
When he attacks a proposal that calls for something pretty much identical to several of his proposals, and attacks it using arguments that would apply equally to his own ideas (and that he rejects when they are used against him), it clearly isn’t about the reforms.
A wise man once said to me “you can get what you want to happen, or you can get the credit for what happens, but not both”. This shows incontrovertibly which one Murphy prefers.

A statement of incontrovertible fact, for wealth tax fans. Tax is paid in money. If you’re going to tax the “wealthy”, they’re going to have to sell some of it to raise the cash. But to whom? The potential buyers are all doing the same, unless they’re furriners, and a fire sale always lowers prices. So your tax destroys some wealth and flogs the rest to wogs, drastically reducing your tax take. Great.
Or you have to “sell” some to the government, which ends up owning loads of little bits of useless shit, that it cannot use as cash. Even greater.

Taxation is a way to reduce wealth, but it won’t achieve his goal. He has more work to do.
