But what is potential?
It isn’t unlimited.
None of us is born with infinite possibilities.
We each have one lifetime.
Spud discovers opportunity costs! How far is he going to get into economics now he’s discovered the second secret of the subject?

Glory be! Spud has been reading Solzhenitsyn!
Liberty, equality, fraternity – choose one; you’ll be gey lucky to get two.
“all men are created equal” and possess unalienable rights to “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”.The first part is evidently wrong and the second part obviously meaningless.
People do like The Higher Vacuities, don’t they?
And that particular philosophy has delivered us into all sorts of hell.
The Higher Vacuities
Perfect!
Before we are even inseminated we have a, almost, unlimited amount of possibilities.
We could be a King, Queen, Scientist, Artist, F1 Driver, SInger, Athlete, etc….
Then the egg is inseminated, Ooops, no king or Queen for you with that egg and sperm, then a bit later all the men only roles or women only roles go and depending on how your body develops you are not going to be No 1 runner, jumper, etc. Your Brain pretty much is defined and a lot of those unlimited possibilities are gone. Before you are even born. Then you are born, your nourishing, education, family financial situation family members, stupidity level, for accidents, and even random strangers all adjust a little bit of what you are and removing options from the table. What country you live in has a big impact. Compare North Korea and China with the US. (I would say Britain but we are getting like China every day). Every day your choices are reduced until you end up in a role. You still have capability for more and even then you will change your role in life several times as you go through live growing up and you may even become a parent.
Lots and lots of potential but in reality reams of drones that are not going to be making any massive changes to our species.
Professor Kartoffel is spending too much time on Facebook for Middle Class Wankers aka LinkedIn. The current trend is creating posts with short sentences, one per line which is a textual version of a TokTok video and just as vapid.
Linkedin? I suppose he is looking for a job.
How would he have time for a job, with all the great and important people queuing up for his advice every time he goes out for a coffee?
More likely is that he’s getting AI to write this bollocks for him. Give it all his blog posts as a style reference and then tell it to write 500 words on subject X.
Sounds about right.
I’m seeing a lot of written material right now that gets my AI-radar twerking. I may be a bit late to the party, but I am starting to catch up.
Spud discovers opportunity costs!
If only!
Ah, potential. That mighty, meaningless dream. The reason why hausfrau love the newborn and long for more: having no history, babies represent unblemished potential.
In reality we all have capability. This differs widely by individual, innately, and by nurture, specific life chances and life setbacks. The Ghetto Einstein is unlikely to do as well in life as Tim Nice But Dim. So be it.
A good society is one in which the greatest number of people can rise to the limits of their capabilities. It seems to me that the post-war West was pretty close to that. It worked for me, and pretty well everyone I can think of. Where I failed, the failure was as a result my limitations, not society’s.
I only have one lifetime. Therefore all must acknowledge my fat controllership. It is the only way I can fully bless humanity with my controllership.
“You Only Live Twice.”
“I’ve been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate, a poet, a pawn and a king”
And he says potential isn’t unlimited?
Surely Murphy is immortal? Or is it just that, after he dies, he will return again in our hour of greatest need?
“Perhaps he may become a highwayman again”
Would his return create our hour of greatest need?
