Espriella, who calls himself el Tigre (the Tiger), celebrated the result: “Compatriots, defenders of the homeland, more than 10 million Colombians placed their trust in el Tigre and joined the pack … In 21 days, we are going to change the history of Colombia forever,” he said in a video alongside his wife and children, all wearing shirts of the Colombian national football team.
Petro posted on X that “as president, I do not accept the preliminary results” released by the National Civil Registry, the independent public body responsible for organising Colombia’s elections.
Without showing any evidence, the president claimed the count included “800,000 additional people” and said he would only “consider and accept” the results of the official scrutiny process, during which the National Electoral Council reviews the physical tally sheets, a procedure that can take days or even weeks.
Nasty, horrible, right wing type comes first – but does not win, run off to come – an election. Left immediately comlpains about vote rigging.
Ho Well. Sometimes in foreign isn;t so different, eh?
Curiously enough, I do actually have a Colombian national football team shirt. If the Tiger wins I might wear it in celebration. Lula’s next.
I wouldn’t want to be a Cuban security guard right now.
Special order of shoe boxes incoming.
Surprisingly balanced report by the Graun.
Balanced?

Colombia’s far-right presidential candidate De la Espriella wins first round of vote ahead of runoff
AP:
Tough-on-crime outsider Aberaldo de la Espriella took the lead in Colombia’s presidential race in the first round of voting Sunday night
Progressive agitator Cepeda is only ‘leftwing.’
“placed their trust in el Tigre and joined the pack”
I thought tigers weren’t pack animals.
el Tigre, Tigre burning breetlie,
In the forests of the neetlie.
To stick at this I would have to be as bonkers as Blake.
In any case these insurgent candidates usually hit their ceiling in the first ballot and there is little headroom in the runoff.
Unless that is, that the incumbent is a total arsehole.
In this case though, one of the eliminated candidates with a significant % of the vote was a mainstream conservative. How those votes split will be crucial to the outcome.
And, indeed, in Colombia the incumbent IS a total arsehole. And a narco to boot.
Either hit the “ceiling” or is smeared against the ceiling….
Those FARC laddies dn’t play nice, and it wouldn’t be the first Challenger to the current absolutely -not-status-quo, nosignor!! with the Left who….meets an Unfortunate End…
Lot of crocodile tears got shed last year after Miguel Uribe was shot in the head and died a few months later. His mum had been kidnapped and killed by Escobar’s cartel when he was young. He had a chance of running as the mainstream conservative candidate this year, though would have been a no-hoper for the big prize. That was still enough to get him killed, and for the lefties who’d let FARC get strong again in the interests of “peace” to declare how sorry they were their opponent had died…
Understand that Burnham and Farage are both watching closely, and taking notes.
