Broadly speaking, the right of the party sees the left as too hopeful about how much can be done to make Britain more equal, while the left sees the right as not hopeful enough.
The one single measure – equaliddee – does rather miss the joy and complexity of life, no? Absolute standards of living say? Liberty? Simple joy itsef?
Here’s a good policy.
How about not making things more crap ?
Making everyone equally rich and happy is difficult. Much easier to make them equally poor and miserable instead.
‘Meanwhile, an absence of hope has quickly doomed other left of centre governments. Keir Starmer’s decision, only eight weeks into his premiership, to summon the media to the Downing Street garden and tell them that “things will get worse before we get better” in the UK was a mistake from which his administration never recovered. In a society where most lives have been getting harder since the 2008 financial crisis, Starmer’s downbeat manner, however justified by the deep problems he inherited from the Tories, was not an emotional register that much of the electorate desired.’
He lost because his administration was the worst in British, if not global
History and its criminality will resonate through recorded time! Has f.;k all to do with him saying things won’t get better. Under him every aspect of life in the UK has got worse and both Starmer and this author, who by supporting Labour has also
Revealed his criminality, should be looking at lengthy time behind bars.
I think he meant that things will get much much worse, and then Nigel will take over to make them better.
Look at the mug of the author…. “Joy” in anything, is obviously not in his dictionary..
“Perpetually Offended” is probably on the cover of said dictionary…
Andy Beckett looks to me like the kind of bloke who sits in the corner watching his wife get shagged.
The Left is obsessed with “equality” because they’re our genetic and intellectual inferiors
Thank you, Steve!!!!
NO, it is because they are too bloody lazy to work as hard as the average right-winger but want to get paid the same. That is why there was all the fuss about Birmingham bin-collectors – the dinner ladies demanded to be paid the same as them.
It is theoretically possible that there is a left-winger who worked as hard as I did (i.e. before I retired) but I have never met one.
I have no problem with intellectual inferiors who try hard and do an honest job – the Toynbees and Milibands (for avoidance of doubt this is a sub-category within intellectual inferiors) who trade on their ancestry to get (places in university that they don’t deserve and) cushy jobs – and then pretend to moral superiority – I find repulsive.
Hope. These deluded clowns think a country runs on hope. It thinks empirical problems, which have empirical solutions, can be solved by hope.
Yup. That’s about the level of it. Its what you get when narrative and meaning completely overwhelm empiricism.
I don’t want equality. I don’t want equality with people who don’t work for a living. I don’t want equality with people who did work but spent their lives pissing their money away in the pub toilet. I don’t want equality with several of my neighbours who, judging by their cars, are doing quite a bit better than I am, good luck to them. Isn’t it obvious that if actual equality could be achieved then working and saving hard would be pointless? It doesn’t take much imagination to predict what life would be like then.
Some of us want *equality of opportunity* because we like fairness.
Of course you end up having to tweak the rules to compensate for nature’s unfairness but we want all children – blue, green, purple or zebra-striped – to have an equal chance to develop their abilities, and in adulthood to be treated fairly when applying for jobs and thereafter to progress on merit (not on who knows who or who sleeps with who).
That will ABSOLUTELY NOT result in equality because those who work hard will prosper (more so if they have valuable talents). Fair and “equal” are incompatible.
Does the Labour Party want all races to end in multi-person dead heats?
I can’t think of a single Labour policy that I don’t strongly oppose, whether it is championed by left or right makes no difference.
IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR FREE MEN TO BE EQUAL.
Their goal is not equality, it is ending freedom. Ending freedom is a tough sell, so the commies say they are fighting for equality.
Commie speak is not to inform, it is to manipulate.
It’s possible as long as they are all dead and forgotten. The untimate in equality.
