Reform UK support could plateau as it relies on socially conservative views, study finds
You know, as with Green Party support having an upper limit as there are only so many shrieking morons to be found in even in Britain?
But to turn away from truth telling and to whimsy. Support for a political party is limited by the number of supporters the political party might have? Rilly?
Support for Labour at the last GE wasn’t an indicator of how many people are left wing, more an indication of how many people were pissed of with the Conservative Party.
if Reform is to win it will be a combination of social conservatives plus those who want to stick it to the current political elite.
Oh, I think it was. Starmer, at 9.7m votes, won with far less support than Corbyn had when he lost (10.3m in 2019 against Boris, 12.9m against May in 2017). I think that’s a pretty good indicator of how little real support there is for Starmer.
Labour’s victory at the last GE was indeed merely “an indication of how many people were pissed of with the Conservative Party”, which I think is probably what you meant. The Conservatives were abandoned by over half their voters, from 14m for Boris in 2019 down to 6.8m for Sunak in 2024. Sunak did worse even than Michael Howard in 2005 (8.8m), which is pretty poor.
Mind you, given the talk of solving Labour’s problems by bringing back Miliband and/or Brown, it’s amusing that they did even worse than Starmer; 9.3m for Miliband in 2015, and just 8.6m for Brown in 2010.
However, dire as both parties’ results were at the last election, they may well both do even worse at the next one.
That is certainly what the Graun hopes. I hope that most Tory voters realise that it is time to ditch their dying, lying party.
“psephologist”….. had to look that up….
So…Ah! A fancy name for a Polling Expert™.. *cough* yeah…..
Fancier name for someone who pulls figures out of his arse.
…
A walk down the wrong street could change a person to social conservatism.
Actually, aren’t all parties more or less a coalition these days?
Even the Green Party now doesn’t just rely on one type of “shrieking moron”; they’ve now got the eco shrieking morons, the uni-graduate young middle class shrieking morons, and the Islamist fatwa shrieking morons.
They shouldn’t worry too much about “socially conservative views” It’s socially radical views when the fun will start.
Curiously, this is the same topic as the one about markets. It’s all about opinions. And opinions aren’t static or change with some smooth predictable slope. They’re subject to cascades.
The “hard working man and woman” (formerly, working class) are renowned for the social conservatism, the traditional Middle Class too. Isn’t that where Reform UK is getting most of its support?
By definition, “socially conservative views” is the majority of the population. It wouldn’t be “socially conservative” if it were an opinion held by a minority in society.
Have you forgotten what conservative means, Steve? It’s not the median point of opinions. Literally it means; in favour of preserving the status quo. Are you in favour of preserving the status quo? Allying yourself with the Ukrainian Fondler?.
surely “socially conservative” means somebody who wants to conserve their society. Despite the Left’s wet dreams, society ≠ government. yet.
