Manages to whinge about how bad maternity services are – and they are, it’s a fair whinge – and not once mention that it’s all female led. It’s really the madwives of course – and to note that a toxic culture, even many toxic cultures, come from wimmins wouldn’t be politic, would it?
It’s all a very useful test. Anyone talking about that madwife culture is at least taking it all seriously. Anyone not ain’t.
Especially ETHNIC women, which all maternity units are now stuffed with….
25 years ago fat, lazy, bullying effnics nearly killed my wife & unborn daughter in a North London maternity unit. Fortunately we had friends attending; the woman was very assertive (as was I) and it took both of us being very firm indeed to get a doctor in to see what was going on. He immediately carried out an emergency C section. Scowling effnic faces.
When did the midwives become so bad? About 30 years ago I professionally investigated maternity stats and concluded that for 2nd and subsequent children it was clearly safer (not much, but noticeably) to have a midwife-run home birth in the UK.

I mean who could have predicted a completely female dominated profession could descend into cat fighting and chaos?
Every time any female politician smugly says ‘Oh if things were run by women they’d be far better!’ someone needs to respond, ‘How about maternity care then?’
Actually I’ll revise my ‘Women went bonkers’ statement. Some women went bonkers because they went to university and came out crazy blue haired cat ‘persons’. And guess who the NHS has been recruiting from for about the last 30 years? You guessed it, university graduates. All the sensible women who could have ended up working in the NHS via on the job training (as it used to be) have been eliminated, and replaced with graduate psychos.
Chalk up another catastrophe the university system has given us.

In my story the midwives were 100% ngrs and wgs, with one or two Oirish. I’m sure you can imagine.
In theatre the doctor was white South African, most of the nurses were white British. They got on with it and saved both lives. The contrast could not have been more stark.
That is the fault of the NHS, not the university system. Someone in the Labour government and/or the NHS decided that nursing should be a graduate profession (I only noticed because one of my friends was a nurse and had to go to university to get a degree to continue doing her job). All the nice not-very-intellectual girls who went into nursing as school-leavers because they weren’t clever enough to become doctors were automatically excluded. What you have left is a few people who would have become nurses anyhow but had to do an extra five or six years “education” before they started and a large number who are in it for the money. I am not sure I want to put my life (let alone that of my wife and children in the hands of the latter.
Of course its the fault of the university system. If selecting from graduates gets you a bunch of neurotic, self obsessed, lazy and downright nasty lefties, while selecting from everyone else gets you sensible people who actually want to help people in need, then the university system must be doing something to create that divergence. At the very least its picking those people in the first place, or (more likely) its creating them via its ‘education’ process.
Have you considered the possibility that most of those going to university have been through 13 years of marxist schooling and three years at university isn’t going to be able to counteract that in most cases?
Lol at the concept that universities are trying to deprogram people from Marxist ideology rather than enforcing it with an iron rod.
With jokes like that one you should do stand-up.
And then there’s how junior doctors get selected for specialist training.
It helps to have done a PhD. And research. And published papers. Because they’re all boxes to tick; proxies for achievement that get you through the filters to interview, to be interviewed by consultants who have done just that, are proud of it, and want people like them.
So the system, actually needing good clinicians, selects for academics who unless you’re lucky are mediocre at best and fucking useless at worst when it comes to actually treating patients properly.
When you think about it, this explains a lot.

It’s been going on for ages. My wife left nursing/medical research forty years ago and it was a problem then.

Miss Cosslett moans about everything, and I mean everything, it could be that she is just the most negative professional opinionist on the planet, or it could be that her actual job is to write puff pieces moaning about everything? If I were the Graun I’d invent an ‘anonymous’ correspondent and just get AI to pump out this guff. Yes, the trained eye could tell, but there would be little discernible change in quality and you could have almost endless pieces moaning about stuff. Just dump in a list of topics (absolutely anything you like) and your selected ‘isms’ and get back polemics on how racist, homophobic, islamaphobic, transphobic, etc, etc… this topic or that is. Of course it would be contrarian and frequently self-contradictory, but that would be no change either.
My GP sister always refers to them as midwitches – I gather its common terminology.
Pterry defined midwives as being witches but he had a much more favourable view of witches.
