I have seen this at first hand. On my way back from the Hay festival this month I was told by a local man that we were in a time of war. He was not talking about Ukraine or Iran. He was referring to Westminster as a battleground. “They are all enemies and this is a war,” he repeated, before calling anyone who voted Labour, Green or Conservative “traitors”.
There are always some who think this way. What matters is how many do and how much they do.
When will the Saxon begin to speak and all that?
There is, obviously and quite clearly, a groundswell against the current establishment. Whether that’s enough – and enough – is what we await finding out.
Fun, eh?
The UK, even though one of the richest countries in the world, suffers from severe class, wealth and regional inequalities, all of which must be taken seriously. There must be a new and calmer language that connects, heals and treats each and every one with dignity. Not hierarchy. Not duality.
The solution is that none may disagree. Obviously.

“The UK, even though one of the richest countries in the world,”
And therein lies the problem. We aren’t. We have a large economy, but divided up between all the people here we are at best middle rank and dropping fast. And thats on the official population stats. Add in the millions that are here unofficially and we would be far lower still.
The lanyard class really have no idea what is happening to the UK, they are living in a fantasy world where we are a very rich country whose problems can easily be solved by just taking more from ‘the rich’ and giving it to the masses.
Its ironic that the Left constantly accuse the Right of living in a fantasy world, of dreams of Empire and past glories. And as ever they are projecting, because thats exactly what they are doing themselves – imagining the UK is still a ‘big club’ when in reality we are mid table Championship at best.
Well done OJ, I was going to make exactly that point.
We have been catapulted back 50 years. We are in a slightly more high-tech version of the 1970s, while much of the world is creating the 21st Century
Old Labour, forever stuck in the 1930s; New Labour, moved on a decade or two ‘the gentlemen in Whitehall always knows what’s best’; and so advancing another couple of decades the Lablibcons, bring us to the 1970s again.
It was nicer in the 70s. I didn’t encounter my first live non-white until 1977. I could and did buy a house for £600. I was able to live on a tenner a week.
Here, here.
I was going to make a similar point.
It should also be noted that the latest bout of internecine warfare within the Labour Party is over whether 10000s of immigrants and their families should be given the indefinite right to remain and claim benefits earlier of later. Either way it will be at a cost of £80+ to the welfare state for each of them.
They are determined to impoverish us.
It’s not just the politicians who suffer this delusion, it’s the public too. A recent survey found the majority of Brits think our gdp per capita (or average wage, can’t remember which) is about the same as Switzerland’s, when it’s actually only half.
UK GDP per capita is lower than any of the US states. But they’ll tell you how rich you are and how you need to give your money away
He does seem to constantly bump into some really convenient imaginary people.
The solution to the problems the population has with the establishment will not come from the establishment re-educating the population. And isn’t that last paragraph just sickening in its stupidity
“The UK, even though one of the richest countries in the world,”
Oh, really? Look at the numbers, pal…
She’s a political scientist, don’t’cha know.
This is quite a sickening article.
It really does imply that hoi polloi are not allowed to disagree.
When one stands up and say “I’m not really sure thats a good idea.” Back come the accusations of racism or homophobia or islamophobia or Uncletomcobbleyandallphobia. Complain that the authorities arent telling the truth and one is Far Right.
The author’s complaint is that ‘since Brexit’ ( humph, long time before that ) the country has become hopelessly divided. No one can see the other’s point of view.
No, for the last 30 years any form of questioning or dissent has been shouted down… or worse.
I once had three continental research students in succession – one German, one Italian, one French. They all commented on how much less intrusive class distinctions seemed compared to their native lands. I tried to explain that the problem wasn’t class distinctions it was the hopelessly daft English class consciousness.
I repeat my advice to the English urban working class – get off your fucking knees.
When I first moved to England, nearly two decades ago, I was invited to attend a talk in London on “the future of British identity”. It was a heated debate from the start, and it became all the more intense when the subject of putting colonial history in the school curriculum was raised. The two main speakers held opposite views and they traded barbs wrapped in velvet – scathing but polite at the same time. It wasn’t just the particulars of the oratory that stayed with me, but what happened afterwards. When the session was over, I saw the speakers shake hands, and then I heard one of them casually ask the other whether he would like to go for a pint. Off they went looking for a nearby pub, these two men who were at loggerheads on so many issues.
Yes but that’s rather the problem. People who are supposedly in opposition who can go for a pint together. It’s politics as a jolly hobby, the debating society. When they fail, because they lack the will to do what is necessary, less polite people will step in who will.
“putting” colonial history in the school curriculum?
Isn’t it already? It was when I was at school.
Yep: principally the triangular trade, the North American colonies, the East India Company.
I suppose we were expected to learn about the likes of Cap’n Cook on our own, being exciting tales.
Colonial history of banning slavery throughout the “Empire” (OK, she was only Empress of India and the banning of slavery was by her predecessors before she was born). The Native Americans were on the side of George III because they correctly predicted that the rebel colonists would treat them less well than the British. The East India Company was totally self-interested but treated the Indians better than the French or the Mughals … how many people mention that we took most of India from the French, during the Napoleonic Wars because they attacked us, or the foreign Muslim dictators ruling over the native Hindus?
Problem with Brexit, wasn’t it? The assumption by the Leavers that the Remainers would accept the result of the referendum & not obstruct leaving. Incredibly naive
I must admit to that naivety, but of course, once you don’t respect a referendum, there’s no way back. You can’t be civil when parliament overrules the public.
But there was no way back. Wasn’t it the One Eyed Snot Gobbler got a ruling that a government can not be held to its election manifesto. So you were already past the point of no return.
The problem is much less than the alternative problem of being hacked to death with an ice-axe because you have a serious disagreement with a colleague (on the same side) on the theory of how to proceed to the new paradise.
They’ve bolted down the lid on dissent. What could possibly…
“Have you seen the klapps ?”
“I think theyre in. They had some men from a carpet cleaning company round just now. They carried out a couple of big rugs. Funny though, they looked very heavy.”
“told by a local man”: aha, dismissing his argument on the grounds he’s a yokel.
You mean that nice Mr. Gumby?
Bit harsh. It’s the politicians who are traitors, many of the voters are just idiots.
When I first moved to England, nearly two decades ago I was invited to attend a talk in London on “the future of British identity”
There you have your problem in a nutshell. WTF invited her? When you start consulting with foreigners about your own identity, you truly fucked.
Indeed. Can you imagine a debate on Japanese identity inviting a recently-landed foreign academic? Although it’s hard to imagine the Japanese feeling the need for a debate on their identity….
They might debate the size of his dick. Identity? They know who they are already.
Probably the Grauniad. No self-respecting Briton would think it worth discussing “the future of British identity”.
This blather about inequality again. As I said the last time that this was mentioned. I don’t want equality. I don’t want equality with people who don’t work for a living. I don’t want equality with people who did work but spent their lives pissing their money away in the pub toilet. I don’t want equality with several of my neighbours who, judging by their cars, are doing quite a bit better than I am, good luck to them.
Having thought about this a bit it has occurred to me that governments could do a lot more good by having basic life skills taught in schools. I’m sure that everyone here will have ample suggestions for the kind of stuff I mean. This would reduce the gap between winners and losers just by have fewer and less incapable losers. It would save the state money by them having fewer dependents. The problem is that people who are confident and self reliant are just too difficult to control.
it has occurred to me that governments could do a lot more good by having basic life skills taught in schools.
But what would the people who teach in schools know about basic life skills?
There are certain life skills that are valuable in schools (some of them are of similar value in bureaucracies).
I s’pose I learnt some life skills at school. Skiving off, convincing lying, how to pick a locker padlock. Those the sort of things you mean?
Ones I was never any good at …
I don’t want equality with several of my neighbours who, judging by their cars, are doing quite a bit better than I am,
They probably dont mind living in debt.
I always buy for cash.
This was something I had to explain to my late father when he’d bought yet another top end Merc. “Those cars you see on other people’s drives aren’t theirs, you know. They’re leased. Nobody buys those sort cars cash. Except you.”
“governments could do a lot more good by having basic life skills taught in schools”
Isn’t it already? It certainly was when I was at school.
FFS we are poorer than the poorest US state, Mississippi,
Our GDP per capita is falling.
The government has run out of money so instead of paying to nationalise the utilities it’s going to go full fascist to control them.
And just *who* is stoking the fires of enmity by writing in newspapers false narratives about anyone who thinks for themselves?
Just asking …
Previously, I just wanted to improve society somewhat. But they didn’t listen. They sniggered at us and used our taxes to bring millions of foreign rapists, criminals and colonists to live off us instead.
Now, I just want mass crucifixions, ziggurats of human skulls, and Ed Miliband sold into Ottoman sex slavery.
Funny how you get more right wing as you get older. They think I’m unstable. ♥️
They think I’m unstable.
I’ve got news for you Steve…
Good news, right?
Kicking in chairs and knocking down tables in a restaurant?
Banned from Frankie & Benny’s
“They are all enemies and this is a war”
The rules are off and he can kill anyone he wants to.
It is a war.
Shabana Mahmood unveils new plan to bring thousands of asylum seekers to Britain under community sponsorship scheme
And they still have the momentum.
(Daily Mail. No link, I keep getting booted off here)
The interesting thing about the British government’s new plan to import parasites and rapists is the sponsorship element.
Presumably, that means it’ll be public info who is “sponsoring” the destruction of your community.
And presumably, people who are unhappy with that will be quite easily able to put names, faces and addresses to the sponsors.
A courageous decision.
He worries so much.about the UK – but he thinks borders are imaginary.
Why is he not worried about the wealth discrepancy between people living in the UK an people living in Madagascar?
Why is he not sending money to them? Because one Pound given to a random African will do more for ‘humanity’ than the same pound given to an ‘asylum seeker’.
None of these people act like they believe the shit they espouse.
There must be a new and calmer language that connects, heals and treats each and every one with dignity as we kill them and take their stuff.
Fixed it.
Who is this cunt with a foreign name telling people in my country how they should behave?
