As the release date approached this month, FiSahara called for a boycott, saying the public should treat The Odyssey as it would a film made in Russian-occupied Ukraine, or in illegal Israeli settlements in the Palestinian territories.
“It amounts to plunder,” said Carrión. “These are stolen images – this is extractive film-making that Nolan has done – and people need to know that.”
Western Sahara, Moroccan occupation and all that.
But “extractive film-making”? Tough sell…..
Since I regard all Moslems as wicked colonialists, one pack of Muzzies lording it over another doesn’t really bother me.
There is that fun issue that the Maghreb really is an Arab colonialist state lording it over the native Berbers.
Ditto different moslem cults killing each other Bogan. Now if only they all fucked off back to Saudi where they belong the civilised world would all be a lot safer and a whole lot happier.
Arabia not Saudi. Saudi is a prossessive adjective, the name of the ruling monarchy. Would you refer to “the federal” or “the united” or “the people’s”?
Saudi Arabia is where much of the civilized world’s oil comes from.
“For now”.
That also applies to how important it is. Once we start delivering on safe, modular nuclear in various forms, it will be a niche product whose primary role will be in chemical manufacturing (for which it will still be important), but not the controlling feature of modern society that it has been.
If you are suggesting that it might cause a problem the ropers would have a choice. Sell oil and gas as they do now, or don’t sell the stuff and starve.
I take it Nolan’s shoot didn’t pay anything at all to any person or entity in the locations? No film permits? No extras, local crew, logistics? Nothing?
Course, back in the old days it’d have been shot in the sunbelt, but… unions.
.
funny…. no mention of all the Star Wars “Universe” , and…. quite a lot of other movies?
Just the latest Fantasy interpretation of an old saga?
I smell “opportunism” to push a Pet Peeve…
Star Wars, Life of Brian and others were filmed in Tunisia, which has a rather unfortunate reputatiin for shooting tourists these dats.
It wasn’t like that when the Carthaginians were in charge.
Carthago restituenda est.
What have the Romans ever done for us ?
Got rid of the Carthaginians for a start! Nasty bunch by all accounts, but then again, the accounts were all written by the victors…
The camera steals the soul dontchaknow?
Not if you leave the lens cap on.
Fishing? Huh.
No! It adds 10 pounds!
Gamecock’s cure for hunger.
There’s a joke to be made about Carrión films, but I can’t be arsed, even with a daffodil.
Guy Ritchie is a better director than Chris Nolan.
But he gets no respect. The Man from UNCLE was a better film than anything Nolan has made, and it died at the box office despite starring Henry Cavill (the modern Cary Grant, effortlessly charming and handsome even when he’s being beaten up) and the beautiful sunkissed Italian setting. No washed out shitfilters or muffled dialogue between depressed PTSD victims in Ritchie’s flicks.
The pigs, Errol.
It is Nolan’s Ann Hathaway fetish that bugs me. Can’t he find someone who can act ?
I wasn’t that keen on The Man From Uncle. And as a kid who watched it a lot, I wanted to. Cavill was excellent casting, though.
Maybe I’ll give it another go.
I loved the sense of style in the cinematography and editing, the 1960’s setting (the next Bond movies should be set during the Cold War) and the breezy banter between the leads. Great chemistry between Cavill and Armie Hammer as best frenemies, and Ritchie keeps things moving entertainingly – he’s a much better director than he’s given credit for.
The plot is meh, but it’s a very likable movie. Cavill would make a perfect Bond.
Have you seen The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare? And I like The Gentleman
You’re in my office under my roof. It’s not your position for Tony to do anything other than to fuck off back from whence he came
Will watch.
the next Bond movies should be set during the Cold War
100% agree. From Russia With love was one of the few Fleming novels made sense. That & Casino Royale which based on real events. In the rest of the Bond novels & films the villains are so contrived they’re ridiculous.
Yarpsolutely, and the 60’s had style coming out of its ears. Beautiful cars, beautiful women, sexy spy adventures in West Berlin. It’s Bond’s element.
Plunder from Carrion?
Google AI tells me that Fishara is a pseudo ratings agency that drives up box office with irresistibly negative reviews.
But “extractive film-making”?
Obviously! Once a scene is filmed it can’t be filmed again. Why you have artistic licenses.
‘Extractive’
This must be a new commie speak term. Images remove nothing.
Do they know most of the movie was shot on a soundstage and in places other than the Med?
