Talk is of newlywed Taylor Swift taking a break from music. Did I take a nap and wake up in the 1950s?
Laura Snapes
What if she did? Actually said, well, now I’ve found my man I’m stayin’ home to bake cupcakes and have babies?
Victoria Coren actually wrote articles about how she was doing exactly that.
Just think of the explodin’ heads…..

Swift is already hugely wealthy and successful as a pop star, so why not step back, have children and raise them? Nothing stopping her writing a few songs after the school run.
The article, which is largely unreadable, just stinks of bitterness and jealousy.
Swift should sue. Guardian dingbat just used her name as clickbait.
Blimey not as if Ms Swift couldn’t afford a nanny.
She’s milked every other aspect of Modern Wimminhood™ and turned them into sing-along poppy no-brainers..
It actually wouldn’t surprise me if she latched onto the “TradWife™” wave, cashed in on *that* , get the inevitable Divorce, and do an album about *that* , etc.
Swift is the modern version of Madonna. You can argue about her voice and her “music”, but she is arguably one of the best in Showmanship and commercialising and maintaining her popularity..
Madonna had some good hummable songs. There’s 3 solid albums in Like a Virgin, True Blue and Like a Prayer. Taylor Swift has maybe 3 bangers. She’s a modern fusion of music and celebrity gossip. The songs are all about her, and various fallings out with people, and girlies listen to them and try and guess who its about. And maybe why she’s going to quit. Nothing much to write about now happily married.
The thing Madonna was good at was getting the right people. She had her ear to the ground spotting new producers as they appeared, new fashions, new culture, finding good songs (some songwriting involves her, but a lot doesn’t). Like a Virgin sounds great because the production and the performers are basically Chic.
Pity Madonna couldnt find a decent plastic surgeon.
A couple of people Ive met who have worked for her say she is a Queen Bitch from Hell. Probably her ruthlessness is the key to her success.
It generally is at that level, which makes me wonder about Swift’s ruthlessness and how she hides it. Nice legs, mind, but so has Madge.
From what I’ve read she basically sets her twitter/IG posts to music. As I’ve never knowingly heard any of her songs I’m not able to confirm.
Madonna has a vastly better catalogue of songs. Most of Swift’s are dull as fuck, written by committee, with execrable lyrics. Mads was also much hotter in her youth (I don’t much care for Swift’s sex robot vibe) and would still be a looker if she hadn’t decided to look like an egg.
Ahh, Victoria, Victoria. Alan’s brains and humour had to go somewhere. Pity about poor Giles, then. Dunno nuffink abaht Swiftie, not my bag, man…
Laura Snapes is evidently no Taylor Swift, and therein lies the problem. She’s outclassed, envious and bitter. Women are like that, y’know. Way more hierarchical than men but passive-aggressively, and refuse to admit it.
No speculation is too harebrained when it comes to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding.
I beg to differ.
From what I recall about Miss Swift, she had a pleasant, but not outstanding, singing voice, whose talent was shagging blokes and then writing songs about how bad they were in bed. Recent videos I’ve had to sit through while with my granddaughter, show that it’s her routine, backing singers, choreography, and production which makes her famous. Take them away, and her talent remains mediocre. But then what do I know? I listen to The Carpenters.
…and in doing so you’re listening to some of the best-crafted songs and arrangements, and one of the greatest voices, of the 2nd half of the 20th century. A good way to spend your time.
I was once in the cutting room of a London studio (the room with the lathes where the master cut is made, for pressing) waiting for my turn with the record I’d just produced, and listening to the engineer re-mastering a Carpenters record. I’d never heard it on precision speakers before and it was really quite something. Beautifully done, and the engineer did it proud.
One of the great voices. See also Judith Durham, Linda Ronstadt, Kathleen Ferrier and Sissel. All of whom just stood and sang. No show, no rumpshekkers.
Judy Durham was so little she always had to stand on a box.
Have you seen the video of the cover of We’ve Only Just Begun by Tori Holub? It gave me goosebumps the first time I saw it.
Prolly not. Zohran Madmani has demanded NYC thermostats be set to 78F. The Garden would be rather unbearable.
Hey, you have to remember he’s just spreading the warmth of collectivism.
“Everyone must suffer equally.”
Gamecock expects commissar dick Madmani to go to the wedding, and for the temp to be way lower than 78.
Some journalist will ask him next week about his hypocrisy. He’ll smile and say he is doing great things for working people.
Madison Square Garden…
I saw that on the news, and my immediate thought was: that’s not square, that’s a circle!
It moved from Madison Square in 1925, but kept the name.
Thanks Gamecock!!
I don’t read sports media, but I don’t think anyone’s asking these questions about her American football star fiance.
Mr Taylor Swift is a 36 year old athlete in a league where the average player retires at 27…
If they stick together they’ll not be short of a bob or two. I daresay he has a plan for life after baseball, or whatever it is he does.
life after baseball
Well played.
It is difficult for the successful young to realize, “Okay. I’ve got it done. I’ve accomplished what I needed to. I can now relax and play for the duration.”
Mr Taylor Swift is a 36 year old athlete
I thought he was a footballer not an athlete.
Hardy har har.
“Mr Swift” is a highly regarded athlete. ‘Merican football players aren’t like Europe’s gay “footballers.”
.
William is from my home town. Still a celebrity there.
Though they only play in one direction, swapping with another team when possession changes. Any wear half a ton of body armour for playing a few seconds at a time of sub-rugby…
Mr Perry, a defensive tackle, got a touchdown in Superbowl XX as a running back. People are still laughing about it.
