I must admit that some years ago I wondered whether I’d live long enough to see India obliterate the cruel reminders of the British Imperial period by reintroducing suttee and thuggee. Maybe they should abolish the trains and drains as well.

In the battle of Plassey the Hindus, they weren’t called that then, sided with the East India Company versus the Mughal and French alliance.

As I understand it, the Mughals were Persians—-ooops Iranians.
So the Injuns were happy to end one form of foreign rule. Even though they got another one in its place.
