Living where I do, in an ancient village in a posh county, there are three ‘sets’.
1. Those who do still operate on the old class lines.
2. Those who operate on money lines.
3. Those who don’t give a fuck.
Group 1 are mostly in their eighties, and dying quite regularly now. Their day is virtually over. I think this is a shame in some ways.
Group 2 are broadly regarded as twats – drive Range Rovers and Porsches, don’t mix in the village, always at celeb parties.
Group 3 are a mix of posh or not, wealthy or not, and all get along.
Sounds very much like my part of the Wessex Marches though Teslas and Defenders seem to be the twatmobiles of choice around here.
By the time Labour are done there’ll be a lot fewer middle class people.
Middle Class is nowhere near the median because the working class is far, far more numerous than the upper class. [Innumeracy is a feature of the Grauniad and its columnists but surely even Polly should have noticed that there were more poor people than rich ones].
When I was young a majority of the members of the Conservative Party were working class (and a larger majority of Conservative voters). Even with the vast expansion of “middle class” jobs, the majority of workers are working class.

£39k is median income for full time employees, across all the median is only about £32k. Only 18% of people pay higher rate tax (ie earn more than £50k).
The UK really isn’t a rich country and it is getting poorer. According to the Terriblegraph today, wages rose 35% 2015-25 and that is behind CPI of 39% in that period.
Saw that. Wittering about how car prices have nearly doubled. Not a whisper about CPI and how purchasing power has changed. Typical MSM article. No context.
What you earn is only one side of the coin when it comes to the level of your lifestyle. I know people who have earned pretty good money during their lifetimes but have tended to spend it as soon as they got it and now are near the bottom of the social heap. Being competent at managing money makes a huge difference.
