Liberal nationalism all depends on socialism that is funded by the productive parts of the economy. Find me a Welsh nationalist, they aren’t working in insurance in Cardiff or running a car warehouse in Newport. They’re unemployed or in some wanky job funded by the Welsh Government (who are subsidised by the English). They not only depend on the English, but the bits of the Welsh economy that are successful.
The car warehouse people in Newport don’t want nationalism and you’ll almost never hear Welsh spoken. Newport depends on the English that nip over the border and buy cars. Or sofas (I’ve done both). it’s ironic how un-Welsh Cardiff, the capital is.
It’s really a joke because if Plaid or the SNP ever got their way, they’d be utterly fucked. The English money gets cut off and taxes have to rise. If Plaid or the SNP were small government libertarians it would work, but they aren’t.
