Nigel Farage has promised not to elevate any Reform donors to the House of Lords if his party wins the next general election.
The Reform UK leader said on Wednesday that “not a single” donor will be offered a peerage, insisting that their motive for donating to the party was because they believed “Britain is broken”.
Well, that saves some money then…..
What will happen – if winning, of course – is a rather large creation of working peers. So, that’s Gawain in I guess. I might be able to blag a drink on the terrace out of him when that happens. As to the rest, as we were. No point in mortgaging the house if the gong doesn’t follow, right?
Kinda on-topic, but probably not really.
Starmer, as an ex-PM, is likely to end up in the HoL fairly soon-ish. Although the last ex-PM to receive the vermine was May.
Starmer is very soon to be an ex-MP, so a by-election due by early/mid-October or thereabouts for the Holborn and St Pancras seat.
Which was created in ’83 and seems to have consistently been held by Labour.

Ah.
Gotta laugh, really.
My contempt for the Starmer grows exponentially with his every action. He mocked Sunak when he lost the PM slot as someone who wasn’t in it for the long haul and would soon disappear to California.
And here we are, Starmer has deserted his constituants because he can’t be bothered, and probably never was, being a constituency MP. Meanwhile Sunak continues to do his job quite diligently from what I’ve read.
He’s a thing isn’t he?
Rise from ex-DPP to Shadow Brexit Secretary, to Dear Leader is about five years. He “was urged by a number of activists to stand in the 2015 Labour Party leadership election following the resignation of Ed Miliband” having been an MP for how many days/weeks?
All a bit quick, really (see also: Macron).
Downfall from PM; two years.
If Polanski wins the 40+ year Labour seat, (Dobson held it for 32 – didn’t realise that) then Burnham’s got an embarassing problem – just when the evenings are drawing in, the weather’s changing, and households start to realise the VAT cut on energy bills is an extra Bombay Bad Boy once a fortnight.
Talking of fortnights, it’d be Healy stepping up at the end of the month. US Mid-Terms within the week, could all be over before Christmas.
Being disbarred and on the streets would be too good for him.
I read that Labour’s likely candidate for the seat will be a female Somalian refugee. In the event that she wins, are we then going to see a Holborn learing centre?
Ayaan Hirsi Ali? No, I thought not.
One thing did enjoy about Blackhawk Down was the bodycount. Particularly the use of the mini-gun on the rooftop. Every one not destined to turn up London. Did you know that the Borough of Newham at one time claimed to house 600% of the UK’s Somali community?
Bet they’ve already got one.
He claimed that there was a “whole ecosystem” which was seeking to undermine him and Reform UK as the “new kids on the block”.
Yes and no. Nobody’s trying to undermine the Greens, because they serve the same interests Andeh, Mark Carney and King Charles serve – that hideous strength that congregates at Davos.
A sovereign, successful Britain full of British people is anathema to them. They want your nation killed by immigration, all its industries closed down, and your children, grandchildren and great grandchildren to be debt slaves.
Remember – our current king went to Davos to explicitly promise proles like us that “you will own nothing“. The “elites” dream of a new feudalism where they don’t have any of the pesky responsibilities towards the lower classes, unless of course they’re itinerant Afghan rapists. You will just work and pay taxes till you die and hopefully free up a house for another family of “migrants”.
I think Zia Yusuf understands that our predicament is existential. I’m not sure Nigel Farage and most people of his generation understand how very little ruin there’s left in our country.
False memory. The then Prince of Wales never promised (explicitly or otherwise) that to anyone. Indeed, neither did the World Economic Forum.
This is not to say (especially in light of subsequent tech corporate behaviour) that the internet meme of “you will own nothing and be happy” isn’t useful in political and social discourse, but it isn’t fair to attribute it so directly to an individual who never said or implied it.
This may be true but his record is too short and flaky for anyone sensible to have any faith in him as being useful to this cause. A great many muslims need to be removed from this country and I don’t think he’s up for it. It took a massive wobble (and the expulsion of Rupert Lowe / creation of Restore) to get him to accept the ludicrous sticking plaster of a burqa ban. I suspect he will end up a spectacular liability.
You are correct, Prince Charles didn’t say those exact words. But he did go to Davos to launch “Prince Charles and Klaus Schwab’s Great Reset”, and the Great Reset was not intended to make us proles richer. It was to promote the same thing the WEF has always wanted for us, namely
Regarding that screenshot of the WEF tweet. Note the number 1 – that’s there because it was a promotion for a series of 8 “essays” offering predictions of potential futures for 2030. That particular essay was “examining” trends in many things becoming rental services with associated privacy implications. It was optimistic drivel written by a wimminz Danish MP and entitled “Welcome To 2030: I Own Nothing, Have No Privacy And Life Has Never Been Better”. It was not WEF policy, as you infer. It’s quite possible that actual WEF policy is far worse than that but what they officially publish as policy is stuff like stakeholder capitalism.
The “Great Reset” was opportunistic, grasping grifting at a dark and desperate time. It was cloth-eared and cringe, and the WEF (and Charles III) deserve all the detestation and contempt they get from that (I’ve been clear about my feelings for our monarch’s green thieving) but the opprobrium should be accurate to be effective. Present lies, get dismissed as fake news.
My attitude to the WEF now is rather like my attitude to the police. Yes, theoretically there may be decent, honourable people in both of them. But now we know so much about how they regard us, anyone who continues to wear the uniform (literally or metaphorically) or attend Davos needs to be treated with suspicion and contempt.
(I never used to think like that. It probably began with lockdown.)
It was optimistic drivel
No it wasn’t, it was trial ballooning. If you’re not yet convinced they’re probably evil alien lizard people, quite possibly from Alpha Centauri, like in the recent television series V, I don’t know what to tell you. The Carney recipe of rapid blitzkrieg population replacement combined with massive debt encumbrances on the masses funded by cheating people twice through inflation and pretending Somalis add the same value to GDP as actual Swedes do is WEF’s idea of capitalism and democracy. That’s why he’s given a hero’s welcome, Errol. Read the room.
The aims of our beloved monarch’s Great Reset were not modest:
Core Goal: To use the global disruption of COVID-19 as a “reset moment” to prioritize green recovery, climate action, and sustainable capitalism through his Sustainable Markets Initiative.
This all sounds very fluffy until the punchline:
Key Focus Areas: Rebalancing global economic models, pricing carbon correctly, and incentivizing private-sector-led sustainable industries.
For the unversed in greenspeak, this means: we’re going to make you poorer, we’re going to make you poorer, we’re going to make you a lot poorer, and it’s on purpose.
Nobody can accuse Prince Charles of lacking vision or ambition:
The Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI) is the world’s premier private sector organization dedicated to accelerating the global sustainable transition. Launched in 2020 by His Majesty King Charles III (then the Prince of Wales), the SMI coordinates “private sector diplomacy,” bringing together global CEOs, innovators, and world leaders to position sustainability at the core of value creation and mobilize trillions of dollars in green capital.
Trillions of dollars is quite a lot, isn’t it? But why would our dear king wish to be involved with suitcases ful– I mean mobilising trillions of dollars of global capital in the first place? Only for completely benevolent purposes.
Regarding our friend Zia.
I hope you are incorrect. We always hope for better from people, don’t we?
You are not incorrect about us needing to rightsize the British population and remove people who are incompatible with our society.
I like the guy, because he tells the truth, and he fights. I can’t spare men like that. Seems Nigel can’t either? But anybody can be a potential liability, and politicians are good at finding ways to let you down.
Wise as serpents and harmless as doves, eh? Muslims exist, and if some of them are on our side, gravy. El Cid was a practical man…
The only muslims on our side are secular, or MINO.
Ferdinand and Isabella knew what had to be done
And Charles Martel before them.
And Liam Neeson in that film.
Just an unlikely what if; would you do it if asked?
I won’t be.
Answer the bloody question …
Asked, or doing it?
Gawain writes very well.
We need many more Gawains, Lancelots, Bediveres and Arthurs.
Current Year people think the accolade confers knighthood, but they are wrong. King Charles can no more turn a man into a knight than he could a newt. Best he can do is recognise the qualities they already have, or else give out meaningless baubles to men who don’t deserve them.
A knight is a man who lives by his honour, tells the truth and nothing but the truth, is loyal unto death and never counts his enemies when it’s time to fight. He is noble in spirit even if he’s not of gentle birth.
If our society remembered what it means to be a lord, a knight, or a king in truth as well as in title, we would be much happier.
You forgot one of the most essential qualities; that of Noblesse Oblige. Something our current overlords care nothing for if they’ve even heard of it.
Steve. Historically,a knight was a thug on a horse with a mace. The honour etc is literary fiction.
That said, what is needed now is knights. Thugs with clubs. You can’t fight with kind words.
You just might be – as I assume you are not a Reform donor. And a Reform government would need large numbers of peers….
Can you become a peer if you live in foreign?
Depends on where you are domiciled for tax, I imagine.
You must – become, not be – tax resident in the UK to sit in the HoL. It’s even been known that someone accepts the title, moves in fore a year or three, then buggers off again. The title is maintained, the ability to sit in HoL is not.
You can trust politicians’ promises.
