Increasing human happiness

That is the aim and goal of the modern world, isn\’t it?

We should do whatever it is that increases human happiness? You know, tax the rich until they bleed to give to hte poor even at the expense of economic growth? Castrate the fossil fuel economy in order to save Flibber in 700 years time? That sort of thing?

Young children smacked by their parents may grow up to be happier and more successful than those who have never been hit, a study has found.

Excellent, so now we\’ve information on another bit of pain now for greater happiness in the future.

It\’s just that, well, somehow, I don\’t expect those who accept the pain now gain later in the first two examples to accept the third.

Can\’t for the life of me think why either.

Flibber? Is that the dolphin who lied and was really a porpoise?

Has anyone seen Alan Turing’s algorithm for maximising human happiness? I couldn’t find it on the interwebs.

Can you have happiness and a long life?
Otherwise a regular supply of cocaine would short out all the theory as the market says it works
( and hence prisons for users/marketers)
