Silicon Valley’s worldview is not just an ideology; it’s a personality disorder.

Far right white supremacism; libertarianism for white men, forced birth for white women. Eugenics for everyone else.

Seriously?

I’m not reading all that; but I did raise an eyebrow at the man publishing on an independent blog accusing Silicon Valley of “Gutting of independent media”. We live in an era rich in independent voices, whether TikTok* video creators, Twitter micro-bloggers, or just long-form bloggers. Silicon Valley isn’t silencing the town square; each company is fighting to attract the independent voices into their respective town squares.

(*TikTok is Chinese, not Silicon Valley.)

There’s a reason that the mainstream media is getting more strident, because it is getting diluted by those other voices, voices which have been cut out and cancelled from the mainstream for defying the various narratives that rule our lives.

It’s also why previously “respected” news organisations are no longer, because they’ve been caught out in their lies and/or bias by the emerging power of the blogs and especially things like substack.

I mean, do you take anything the Grauniad says nowadays, seriously?

I stopped reading Crooked Timber years ago because it was so badly written. I’m mildly surprised it still exists.

Well yes. I do consider that disagreeing with me is a personality disorder.

Where I feel they’ve made their error is in claiming that disagreeing with THEM is a personality disorder.

“And she does on nice articles in The G”

No, it’s simple exercise of power and all that. If you look at where that Foundation puts its money, it gets a lot of bang for its buck in terms of influence (politics, media, etc) and which then drives ROI. Billy’s even (inadvertently) bragged about it on Twitter. And it’s not unique at all in that respect.

Or did I naively misunderstand the nuance in that comment about his and hers!
