The TikTok deal puts even more media in the hands of the super-rich
Margaret Sullivan
Biden era law of course.
And apparently it’s $14 billion (plus continuing royalties and not for all of it either, and US only).
So, who else has $14 billion other than the rich?
Why the State of course.
That is who should really be owning social media.
Do keep up.
So old Sleepy Joe Biden should have bought Twatter for the state rather than letting that renegade Elon Musk buy it?
Probably makes sense to the Commie libtards, but not quite so sure it makes sense to the world at large.
Ah Dan
We live in Clownworld
Making sense ist verboten
“The richest man on earth owns X. The second richest man on earth is about to be a major owner of TikTok. The third richest man owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. The fourth richest man owns the Washington Post.”
And then there’s YouTube, Medium, Substack and if that doesn’t work for you host your own site on WordPress for about £10 a month. Or even do my mad thing of using S3 hosting for a pre-cached site. Super super cheap.
No-one is making much money from media today because there’s just too many people doing it. The money is in providing a platform for others. Facebook has groups, full of people whining about some new houses being built near them and they run some ads and that pays for the thing. The writers make jack shit. And as long as you aren’t doing porn and Nazi shit, Zuck doesn’t care that much.
Netlify – static pages built using markdown and then git push = Free. A bit more fiddly to set up but it is even possible to add content pages ‘dynamically’ with something like Google Sheets as the ‘database’.
I have some code that runs on my pc and generates html that pushes to Netlify. Its some crazy custom stuff.
I was wondering about Netlify + Firebase as there is a good free tier.
