What a fun point!

American democracy might not survive another year – is Europe ready for that?
Alexander Hurst

Trapped between Putin and Trump, EU citizens understand the grave dangers facing the continent. Their leaders urgently need to face reality, too

Europe’s run by incompetent tossers who cannot see the nose on their face. Therefore, of course, we must have more Europe!

I’ll put money on America’s constitutional republic will last a lot longer than the undemocratic EU.

Yup… Increasingly, they’re realising the EU is very much not their Friend….

I was at a university reunion last weekend and a California dwelling almunus was warning darkly of ‘democracy’s end’. It’s almost as though attempting to ban political opponents through a combination of dishonest propaganda, bogus lawsuits and direct personal insults might not have been the best idea if you expect civility in your political discourse?

I am not sure reality and the EU have ever coincided outside the minds of the audience of ‘The Rest is politics’ or other such politcally braindead natives.

Thanks. Quite remarkable when a Californian believes a democracy is preferable to a republic.
A Republic being founded on principles stating what a government may not do to you
versus
A Democracy based on the principle that 51% get to impose their desires and the costs on the other 49%.
As Peter Schiff has sort of said – I would rather pay more tax to live in a Republic.

Fascism is apparently, among other things: ... the rejection of reason, the fear of difference, the hostility towards disagreement… the degradation of language into newspeak…

The left murder their opponents, they hate white people and Christians, they believe that men can become women and have twisted language to suit their own purposes.
President Trump and his supporters have done nothing even slightly comparable but they’re the Bad Guys!

Fascism would be terrible, can you imagine the horror if we lived under fascism? There would be no LGBTQIA+ or Diversity or Net Zero…

Sir, America is fascist. It is virtually impossible to buy anything that doesn’t have government content.

The Federal government has 600 agencies telling the people how they must live.

I wager the US is more fascist than the 3rd Reich.

What is it about what’s happening in the US now that is undemocratic, whereas massively fiddling votes, censoring citizens by the hundred thousand, provoking and encouraging the burning down of cities by ‘protestors’ nominally on your side, siccing the FBI onto Catholics and parents who don’t want their kids transed at school, arresting the former president for spurious crimes while giving your own side a complete pass on actual crimes, lying to the FISA court to obtain warrants to spy on your opponents, paying British spies to invent wholesale bullshit ‘dossiers’ about your principal political opponent, rendering citizens who don’t follow your murderous ‘health’ edicts unemployable, having various Congressmen and women followed secretly at airports, suborning the press, and more, was not?

Democracy in the US wll be saved by stuffing the SupremeCourt, disbanding the electoral college system, allowing local judges to adjudicate the actions of the Executive and doing away with all forms of voter id or qualification. As soon as the Democrats get power through the current ‘rigged’ system.

I would hope so. European democracy, after hanging on by a thread for my whole life, dies 20 years ago. The loss of American democracy would mean we just become what Europe already is.
