So, so, Guardian

Men in football get full rein to pursue their dreams while women must compromise
Jonathan Liew
Two female WSL managers are leaving for reasons of work-life balance. When it comes to sacrifice, it’s not the same for men

What? You mean that in a mammalian, viviparous, two sex species with a long, long, period of childhood helpessness, gendered reactions to the arrival of offspring differ?

Gerraway, say it ain’t so!

  1. Alternatively, most women aren’t prepared to work as hard, so won’t make the sacrifices needed for top jobs.

Or, WSL manager’s pay is bobbins, reflecting the money in the game, so it’s not giving up motherhood for.

Anyway, Nicola Horlick has about half a dozen children so these women clearly need to up their game.

  2. So, at a stroke, half of the permanent female coaches in the Women’s Super League have decided, in effect, that the WSL is not worth the trouble

What took them so long? Arguably the most interesting thing about the WSL this year was the quickly memory-holed, “drunken vomiting and racist language while using a taxi” incident involving one of its biggest stars. Imagine a male player receiving such sensitive treatment from the media. Mind you the (losing) Chelsea coach getting into a right old touchline strop with her male counterpart was fun as well.

  3. The obvious solution is to increase the ladies’ pay so much that they can afford the servants necessary to do all the stuff they can’t manage now.

What’s that RichardT?? Women’s football isn’t popular enough to pay its present expenses??

    Ouch is right!!!

  4. Richard,

The bbc never tires of telling us about record attendances at Wembley for women’s international matches or a recent record attendance at the Emirates for Arsenal ladies. They never mention ticket prices and total gate receipts, almost certainly because both would struggle to top 10% of a comparable men’s match.

  5. I used to think the baby vats and communal nurseries in Brave New World were the least plausible part of the whole thing, but that’s where this road leads.

  6. Bloke in North Dorset

    “ 98% capacity v 9%.”

Even if the 9% are paying for tickets, and I’ll bet good money on them giving away tickets to schools and girls clubs, there probably isn’t enough revenue to pay the overheads of opening the ground and bars.

  7. Hey, where’s my right to persue my male dream of being an overweight asthmatic arthritic millionaire professional football player?

  8. As Jordan Peterson has mentioned, they never seem to clamour for equality in professions such as deep sea diving, coal mining, the fishing industry etcetara, etcetera.
