There’s an appropriate response to this French demand

Starmer insists reset with EU will make people better off
Prime Minister’s claim comes as Macron demands ‘hard link’ between fishing rights and defence in bid to secure greater access to UK waters

“Fuck off” would suffice.

Fuck off you French bastard would be more accurate.

I’m afraid 2TK can’t hear your advice as he is bent over with his head between his legs, in what has become his traditional position when required to defend the interests of the nation.

TTK must have really confused the French. Someone surrendering to them.

Labour’s polling results are the worst for 100 years and the Conservatives are close to and rapidly approaching their 2022 low point. I suspect TTK’s strategy might be to play for a sort of Brexit re-run given that his “Leave” voters have mostly already departed in favour of Reform. His problem is that the remainers are spread evenly across the other parties.

EU – give us fishing rights or we won’t allow your companies to tender for our defence contracts (which they won’t get anyway).

Also EU – Orange Man tariffs are bad REEEEEEEEEEEE!

“Fuck off” would suffice.

Hopefully Reform will utilise Dominic Frisby for trade negotiations.

So, this numpty is set to allow the French to use their floating fishing factories in British waters, therefore depleting the stock for British fishermen, after continuing to give the French government millions of Pounds so the French navy people traffickers can escort the small boat invaders into British waters?
I did think he had reached the appropriate level of insanity when he decided to give British territory to a country which has no legal claim to it, plus a shed load of other people’s money, and then rent it back, using more of other people’s money, but it would seem I was wrong.

What defence industry are we talking about? Any company that seriously wants a piece of the EU spending only needs to have a subsidiary in the EU. BAe already has a tank deal with Rheinmetall and aircraft participation in Airbus and Eurofighter. Not worth giving away fishing rights for. We need to have a rational defence posture, and we haven’t go one now. IMHO we can’t put a serious force in the field on the continent or support one on expeditionary adventures overseas. What we need to do is dominate the seas that surround the UK. From the North Cape to somewhere south of Gib. With aircraft and ships. Probably ships that are a bit different than what we have now. I’d look at small short-range submarines, but that’s just a half-warmed fish. Learn from the Black Sea campaign. And keep just enough army to deter invasion.

Oh, and rehabilitate the ability to make our own stuff.

People seem to think that Starmer is involved in some kind of negotiation with the EU. No. Starmer fully intends simply to hand VdL the keys to the sweetshop, as he has always done. No more, no less.

It’s just that he knows he can’t get a democratic mandate for this so he’s lying and obfuscating, again as he has always done. His problem is that by doing all this through Statutory Instruments it can be undone in a day, as Nigel has pointed out, but the damage done by then may be irreparable.

Ireland would have been better off if they’d stayed in the UK. Their economy crashed for decades after leaving. Proof they should never have left. They need to negotiate becoming a vassel state of the UK and reverse UKIXIT to put the economy above self interest.

How typical of politicians. They acknowledge there is a threat they need to deter and may even have to send their citizens in to a hot war, but they’d rather cut off their noses to spite their faces by buying inferior equipment rather than admit the UK in to this club without a punishment beating.

DeValera buggered the Irish economy by trying to turn it into his idealised land of green pastures and all that dancing withthe arms by their side in the evening.

Then when he went the crooks and spivs took over.

Wasn’t until Fitzgerald came along that they starrted to fix things.
