This’ll help in bashing the Frenchies, eh?

Army officers have been warned by the deputy chief of the general staff that they must “disassociate” themselves with private members’ clubs that do not treat women equally.

Vry well done that man.

Lieutenant General David Eastman has ordered a review this week of any affiliation by a regiment with a private members’ club.

The review needed to ascertain whether the club’s rules and culture “align with the army’s values and the principles of equality and respect”, he said.

The first thing that happens in any proper shooting war is that the peacetime generals all get sacked. Because those who rise up the bureaucratic pole of the peacetime forces are not those able to actually lead men into fighting a war.

Jus’ one of them things…..

To be fair, I know Dave Eastman and he’s a bloody good bloke. He might be the face of this because of his appointment, but I very much doubt he initiated it.

No he isn’t. He had a perfectly good alternative to issuing this instruction. Resign. But he’s like the rest of the British military officer class. “Three bags full, Sir” Send the lads into impossible situations under-equipped & supported to be killed & maimed.

You don’t have much experience of the military, do you.

I know plenty about it. Why couldn’t he resign? They are allowed to – Pat Sanders quit just because the Navy were rude about him.

And are you really trying to say that British troops are not regularly sent out ill-equipped for their task?

They were being blown up in Snatch wagons in Basra for months before anything was done about it, and I don’t recall very many senior officers resigning in protest.

If it comes to that, plenty were sent out initially with no body armour, shit weapons (better than they had been, but still shit) and cheap Pakistani ammunition that jammed those shit weapons every third round.

It has long been a point of pride among British squaddies that they knuckle down and get on with it despite all the shit, but let’s not pretend the shit isn’t real.

Then he should have said fuck off, over my dead body (or at least over my resignation).

“You lot are a horrible shower. What are you?”

“A horrible shower, sergeant.”

Equality and respect are indeed the army’s values and principles.

So they must now allow men to join the regimental Wives Clubs, no?

When can we finally cancel the idea that “equality” is a good thing, an achievable thing, or one of “our values”?

Fuck equality. We want excellence. We want brilliance. We want greatness.

Deifying equality was always a stupid idea, no more so than when a Lt General is embarrassing himself by wibbling about it. No, armies are not based around equality, which is why I don’t have a field marshal’s baton and why Mr Eastman doesn’t do guard duty.

It’s also embarrassing when soldiers try to spout corporate boilerplate wank, they always come across as thickos:

he wrote: “The British Army continues to evolve into a modern, inclusive, and forward thinking organisation. It is imperative that our practices, partnerships, and affiliations reflect the values we uphold.” He also said: “Our commitment to inclusivity is vital, and it must be visible.”

I’m sure Putin will be terrified to hear it.

Last year Simon Case, now Lord Case, who was head of the civil service at the time, and Sir Richard Moore, then head of MI6, were criticised for being members of the Garrick Club, which excluded women. They both quit the club.

No, Mr Bond, I expect you to be sacked by HR.

An army spokesman said: “Ensuring every member of our armed forces can participate fully in army life without facing barriers based on gender is fundamental to building the capable, cohesive fighting force

Lol!
