Tough Titty Timmy

From the latest, Pennsylvanian act of the world\’s longest Punch and Judy show, I draw this conclusion: whoever wins the presidential election in November, the world will be disappointed.

USians are electing the President of the United States of America. What the rest of the world thinks about it really doesn\’t matter.

You want a voice in it? Immigrate, pay your taxes and vote.

How odd … I was hoping to emigrate and take my skills (programming) to the USA whence Dr Paul got into office, but instead the perverse happened and the media excluded him as a candidate.

Well, looks like our poor buddies from across the pond will lose in more ways than one now!

What on Earth, eh?

To immigrate and pay taxes is not sufficient to vote.

The world doesn’t get much of a say, but I’d have thought back in your libertarian days you’d have regretted (even if you thought it was unavoidable) the situation where a government can have an impact on people’s lives and they get no recourse. And surely the actions of the US government do affect us?

Tim adds: Sure, and the actions of our government affect them: so why does everone get sore when they try to influence who is our government?

Tim-“What the rest of the world thinks about it really doesn’t matter.”

But..But, isn’t “improving/changing/restoring” that thinking one of both Punch and Judy’s talking points?

Peter Briffa had a good take on this before the last US election. Some windbag in the Guardian or Indy was going on about how if the world was consulted, Kerry would be elected president. The Briff said something along the lines of if the world had a say, a Chinese would be elected president.
