The problem with something like plastic surgery is that it can be addictive.

But that is a false analogy. A nose may or may not be the problem. But some people have more serious problems in which the fixation on the nose, or the penis, is not the cause but a symptom.
No matter how thin anorexics get, they are still not happy and still see themselves as fat. Because it is not really about their weight.

Giving people opposite sex hormones is not hormone replacement therapy. Perverts co-opting legitimate medical practice. HRT is an effective treatment for menopause problems.

At the time I was taking the view that some male brains are born in female bodies and vice versa, that is to say this is a real biological/medical phenomenon. The argument was at Sensible Erection, a now defunct collaborative blog I was a member of which was predominantly college educated liberals in its population. What surprised me was that the person most viciously attacking my position was one of the hardcore lefties who insisted that this was all about deconstructing gender, the quote “last great frontier”. To suggest that male and female exist at all was unacceptable, and he unguardedly went on for some time about how “traditional trans” had had to be pushed out of the way in “the movement” to make way for the genderqueer non-binary post-modern theoreticals. So I had a look into it as best I could and indeed there had been an internal war as SJWs invaded and subverted the trannie community.
Which was one of the many small experiences that turned me into the far-rightist I am today.
What the truth of the psychology/biology of it all is, I don’t really know and I don’t believe anyone else really does either. There may well be a mix of causes of transexuality. The one thing I am convinced of is that the activists don’t give a damn about the individuals they’re affecting.

I know a couple of people who had pronounced wingnuts. They’d obsessed about them for years then decided to get them done. It was an afternoon, there were no complications, and no boob jobs, or anything else followed. Except that years of trying to hide the sticking out ear stopped. The focus on appearance didn’t switch to some other body part either.
You forget, the people we hear about are those for whom it’s not been a success or people who clearly have problems. It doesn’t mean they’re in a majority or even close to equality.
